Questions about the Lawn Care Contract

The property and the areas the crew takes care of, each task with its standard (such as the mowing height and what happens to clippings), the season or year-round term and how often visits happen, what happens when weather prevents a visit, the price and how it is invoiced, any add-on services, who pays for fertilizer and other materials, how the crew gets into the yard, how damage is handled, and how either side ends the contract.

Yes. Choose a set price for each visit, a flat monthly fee, or one price for the season paid in equal installments. For a monthly fee over a defined season the contract also states the season total, and up to four add-on services can be priced separately.

When fertilizing or weed control is a task, the contract says the contractor applies only products it is permitted to apply, gives any notice or posting that applicable law or the product label requires, tells the customer what was applied and when, and states how long children and pets stay off a treated area. You also choose whether materials are included in the price, billed at cost, billed with a markup, or supplied by the customer.

The contract says grass is not cut when it is wet enough to clump or when the ground is frozen. You choose whether a visit that weather prevents is made up within a set number of days at no extra charge or skipped until the next scheduled visit, and the contract spells out what that means for a per-visit, monthly, or season price.

The customer marks sprinkler heads and other hidden objects before the first visit. The contractor repairs damage its crew causes to marked sprinkler heads, lighting, fences, and plantings beyond ordinary wear, and is not responsible for objects that were hidden and unmarked, pre-existing conditions, or damage from disease, drought, or insects.
