A PPA means you buy the electricity produced, not the equipment. A lease means you pay a fixed monthly fee. Purchase or loan means you own the system and keep all incentives.

System Size (kW DC)

The direct current (DC) nameplate capacity of the system. Average U.S. residential systems are 6–12 kW. Annual production should be estimated for your specific location.

PPA Rate ($/kWh) or Monthly Lease Payment ($)

PPA rates are typically 10–20% below your utility rate. Lease payments are fixed monthly. Both should be compared against your current and projected utility costs.

Annual Rate Escalator (%)

Many PPAs and leases include an annual price escalator (1–3%). This increases your payments each year. Compare the escalator to historical utility rate increases in your area.
